Editorial guidelines

Our editorial guidelines are fairly simple. We don’t expect you to submit A A Gill-style prose (although you can if you want!) but we do require reviews to be as literate as possible, fair, and to give people an accurate impression of the venue that is being described.
Your reviews can be long or short, but ideally at least 100 words and preferably no more than 500 words, unless you are feeling particularly expansive about a place you’ve visited. We are also happy to accept photographs to accompany your reviews - they don’t have to be perfect, but no thumbs in front of lenses please.
Don’t worry if you send a review and it doesn’t appear immediately. We get a high number of submissions every week and each and every review or comment is hand edited. We aim to publish your submissions within 48 hours, but this doesn’t always happen during times when our workload is high.
We don’t pay for reviews but occasionally we award £20 for a review which is particularly worthy of praise, or for an especially prolific writer. Please note that you’ll need a PayPal account to receive any money from eatmytown.co.uk and you must supply an email address if you want to be considered for a payout.
In summary:
DO be fair. Even if you’ve had a bad experience, try to mention any positives you encountered.
DO be as descriptive as possible about the food, atmosphere, décor and the service you’ve received.
DON’T worry if you’re not a professional writer - all reviews are hand edited by our team.
You can also choose whether you’d like a by-line for your review - either your real name if you’re looking to develop a writing career, or a screen name. It’s up to you!
