Entrée

Meaning literally 'entry' in French, an entrée has a different meaning depending where in the world you are.

In the UK and Europe an Entr
ée is either a starter or an additional course which comes before your main course. Entrée (aside from on menus) is a word rarely used in the UK - starter is the common term.

However, in the United States an entr
ée refers to the main course of your dinner, after your appetiser (or started in the UK).

Some believe an entr
ée in the UK denotes a dish that is generally larger than a typical starter but would still come before your main meal.
