Two of the three three-starred Michellin restaurants in the UK are in Bray (The other is Gordon Ramsay’s in Chelsea) and how diverse they are.
While The Fat Duck (a short walk from The Waterside) offers a surreal experience on a grand scale, The Waterside can only be described as far more ‘normal’.
Michel Roux’s excellent food is delicately presented in pleasant, although slightly functional surroundings, at The Waterside. It’s unusual to come out feeling full from a restaurant like this, but lunch is certainly a day’s worth of food.
In the summer diners can enjoy drinks on a terrace overlooking the Thames and there’s even a restaurant-owned boat on hire for the more adventurous (or merry) to enjoy. Animals are wonderful but perhaps the bread supplied by the restaurant to feed them with was a customer service too far.
Impeccable service and a special place to eat but strong competition from very nearby.
