Located just outside of Newbury and a stone’s throw from the M4, The Vineyard offers 2 star Michelin dining with hotel and spa facilities. Although everything about The Vineyard smacks of quality and attention to detail, you can’t help but notice a slightly disjointed feel to the place. That said, the food on offer is exceptional and chef John Campbell has definitely upped the ante of modern cooking with his sous-vide (vacuum sealed and slow cooked) style of cuisine, and the menu on offer is extremely special. Choose the tasting menu if possible - at the time of writing notable dishes included a stunning wild mushroom risotto, roast chicken with stuffing (a tapas-sized roast dinner) and lamb loin. Mr Campbell’s deft touch was apparent, and a third star should definitely come his way. The uber modern exterior slightly contradicts the more traditional, even slightly twee, interior and rooms, but overall a great destination for a romantic break, or just to treat yourself.
