You wouldn't stumble across this place if you didn't know Reading that well as it is located on the outskirts of town and away from the main drinking hotspots.
But it's worth making an effort to visit if you live in the town as The Turks Head is a decent bar with comfortable seating, unusual decor, a pool table and very friendly service.
Although it is thought of as mainly a student pub, and that's to be expected given its close proximity to Reading University, this place is welcoming to all and aside from the students, there is a steady flow of customers of all ages.
There's also seating at the front (great for people watching, although next to a busy road) and the back, including a covered area for smokers.
All in all a decent, slightly unusual pub, that is easy going and perfect for a few drinks away from the larey beer monsters that frequent the town centre.
Better than average and recommended.
