The Moderation has undergone a stunning transformation since the bad old days when it was a pub to avoid for most people.
It has been completely revamped inside and it looks like the clientele has undergone a similar change. Gone are the patrons with a penchant for a punch up and in are the professional chilled out metrosexuals.
The main bar is bright and airy with plenty of comfortable seating, but if you happen to go on a warm day you'll find an excellent garden area out the back, complete with lounge cushions for those who really want to kick back.
The interesting menu offers many unusual twists on traditional dishes together with a Thai-influenced selection that looks promising.
There's a good range of drinks on offer which are served with a smile by the friendly and helpful staff.
Definitely worth a visit.

"The Moderation is well worth revisiting if you haven’t been for a while because it is a completely different pub now. It’s cool and friendly and the bar staff are great. I agree with the other poster in that the food could do with improving but overall this is one of best bars to go to in this area of Reading."

"The Moderation is so much better than it used to be and now it’s a really nice bar with friendly staff. But having eaten there three times now I have to say the food just doesn’t match the pub. The kitchen doesn’t seem able to produce anything more than very poor pub grub - whether it be a Thai curry or a steak, they just can’t seem to get it right. A real shame as this is now one of the best pubs in Reading."

"I went to the Moderation for the first time in about five years the other night and I couldn’t believe how much it has changed. It used to be pretty dodgy and scruffy. One of my friends was sworn at by a drunk at the bar and all the staff could do was laugh and encourage him! But now we love it - clean and modern with very friendly people working there. They’ve done a fantastic job and I hope local people support them."
