If you’re looking for an authentic greasy spoon which offers tea that would put hairs on your chest and food which would induce palpitations from a doctor, then head to The Gorge.

There is a good reason for its name - inside the ceiling has been constructed to represent a cave, except it’s painted a sickly red/pink colour - and the moniker also has a cunning double meaning.

Plates are piled high with delicious heaps of greasy bacon and sausage, bread is served white and heavily buttered and the tea, as mentioned, will keep you going all day on its own.

Ironically the tables are constructed in a way that only the most slender can sit comfortably around them - anyone who is slightly overweight will feel their bellies pressing into the edge, especially after a fried feast.

The gorge attracts a varied clientele with a common purpose, and offers a good honest greasy spoon atmosphere with reasonably priced food which is perfect for when the craving takes hold.
