"We dropped in here for a quick bite after a day out in London and found the food and service excellent. The noodles were packed with flavour and well-cooked king prawns and the Pad Thai was delicious - the meat was tender and the flavourings authentic. Well worth visiting for some good, reasonably priced, Thai food."

Unless you're a local, you're unlikely to stumble across Thai Corner as it is located at the far end of West Street, away from the main shopping area.

However, it's worth walking the extra distance as the restaurant serves up delicious, fresh food with authentic ingredients and flavour.

The venue can be pretty packed at night, but the staff are willing to do their best to find you a table, or give you an estimated waiting time.

The seating area is a little bit cramped as the tables are squeezed in to fill all the available space, but you can still have a private conversation as the atmosphere is buzzy and lively without being overbearing.

On the night of our visit we started with Moo Ping (grilled strips of pork with garlic and sauce), Tod Mun Pla (spicy fish cakes) and prawn crackers. The pork was rich and satisfying, if slightly chewy, and the fish cakes were packed with flavour and fresh herbs and not nearly as a rubbery as they can be in other establishments.

For mains we chose Jungle Duck (duck with chilli paste and beans) and Beef Mussaman Curry with Roti (a flat Thai bread), with a prawn Pad Thai and steamed Jasmine rice as accompaniments. All the dishes were well cooked and full of authentic flavours. None of the food was over salted which is always a good sign.

We washed the meal down with two bottles of Monsoon Valley white wine, which was dry, very easy to drink and went well with the food.

The bill came to £58.50 which, given that there was easily enough food for four people, was very reasonable and offered good value for money.

The staff had a nice, relaxed attitude and happily complied with multiple requests for tap water, extra dipping sauce and our other demands. The service was on the slow side, but not to the point where it became annoying.

The clientele was a good mix of families and couples of all ages and there was no sign of the drunken gangs that you can get in some Reading restaurants, particularly at the weekend.

Overall Thai Corner did an excellent job for a very reasonable price and comes highly recommended.
