The building formerly known as the Fez Club has been completed refitted into the current apparition that is Sakura.

The club is split over three levels with a bar on the ground, a bar/club with small dance floor on the first and a roof garden (ie a smoking area) on the third.

Aiming to be uber cool, Sakura is distinctly underwhelming. The design and décor is painfully normal and would be familiar in almost every town across the country. There is no spark or anything out of the ordinary to hold your attention.

Drinks are reasonably prized and so far Sakura has managed to attract a good crowd of well-off professionals in their late 20s early 30s. The music is solid and the club mixes things up with dance floor-filling DJs and Indie set piece nights.

The downstairs area is mainly a restaurant during the early evening, with the kitchen serving a selection of pan-Asian dishes among other things which are fine for sharing with friends, but certainly not posh nosh.

The current owners - electricbars - still list the former Fez Club, and the defunct Po Na Na, as being part of their stable elsewhere in the country.

Treat Sakura with indifference and you won’t be disappointed, just don’t expect to be dazzled.

"Imagine a beautiful sunny afternoon, and a company outing to watch England play Slovenia in a critical match cup. Kick off 3pm, and Sakura happy to take our hundreds of pounds. Imagine then that the only employee they would not let in was a working mother, with her 8 month old baby. The manager deserves a jobsworth of the year award, he certainly knows how to make sure we will never come back."

"This is not the place to have food of any kind, I think you should stick to bottled drinks in this joint. Disturbingly sticky floors, tables, and chairs (even the menu was sticky). I should have exited the premises as soon as I realised that at 20:00 no other guests were coming into this establishment. We had the special platter for 2. Deep fried mess of food that easily came from Tesco freezers. The 'fresh' lettuce was wilting. The deep fried wontons were greasier than Eddie Murphy's hair in "Coming to America." A definite SKIP IT! Do not eat here, you'll regret paying for the high priced menu for food that is bargain bin."
