(Review date: September 2009)

As a meeting place for Reading's gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender community, Reading Pride is fine.

However, as an eating place for said community, this event is sadly lacking, which is surprising given the number of people it attracts.

The best food on offer appeared to be vended from an ice cream van which doubled up as a hot dog supplier.

However, the 'hot dogs', if you can call them that, consisted of a small, stale roll made of a substance far distant from bread, filled with a pale frankfurter made from God knows what, and still pink in the middle.

One mouthful later and this amorphous mass was plonked firmly in the bin, but scouring the field for a more appetising alternative proved fruitless.

The beer tent was pretty shabby as well - £2 for a small bottle of lukewarm Coors, £3 for a similar quantity of Fosters, and £3 for a small wine. A good money maker, but not exactly inspiring.

Reading Pride is a fun and vibrant event for the town, but more needs to be done to cater for the hungry and thirsty visitors who descend on Kings Meadow after the parade through the town.
