Once a haven for the alternative side of life, from hardcore rockers to ex-cons, The Purple Turtle has lost some of its uniqueness to an influx of students and IT workers. However it still remains a decent place to go for a drink accompanied by a decent selection of non-commercial tunes. There is a good sized beer garden and a basement bar which features an eclectic mix of live performers - rave, rap and just about anything else goes. Drinks are reasonably priced and the crowd is generally friendly and non-judgmental.
