Ostrich meat
THE potential benefits of Ostrich meat have come to the fore recently as a result of high profile and positive mentions on various TV cooking programs.

Ostrich meat is a red meat low in fat which can be cooked in much the same way as other more conventional meats, namely beef. It is often described as being similar in flavour to beef, although it also has much less cholesterol and is a deeper red in colour.
Suppliers offer cuts come from the leg, thigh and back - there is no breast meat as is the case with chicken and turkey.
The meat, which does not have the conventional marbling found in beef, hence the lower fat levels, is suitable for a wide variety of dishes. Serving pink, like beef, is advisable to allow the full flavour of the meat to come out. It can also be eaten raw as carpaccio.
Despite the low fat content, scientists agree that Ostrich meat is still packed with protein and iron - essential for a healthy body.
With the health benefits of ostrich meat being exposed by many professional chefs in the UK, demand is increasing for this product.
Fortunately it is becoming quite widely available in the UK and there are many independent farms located around the country from which you can source fresh ostrich meat from.

"Finding ostrich meat is the quest! It sounds like a decent alternative to traditional meats."
