Marinate

A term used to describe the process of soaking food, often meat or fish, in a liquid to tenderise it and add extra flavour.

A marinade (the substance used to marinate a food) should acidic, and often contains a mixture of oil, herbs and spices into which the food is placed for a period of time to assume the flavours.

Ribs and chicken are two foods which are often marinated before cooking.
