Forbury’s Restaurant and Wine Bar is in a two horse race with The London Street Brasserie for the title of Reading’s top restaurant, but at present it is in the lead by a couple of heads.
Set in the austere surroundings of Forbury Square, Forbury’s means business when it comes to food and its clientele.
The minimalist décor combined with an airy room makes it the ideal venue for a working lunch, with plenty of space to put tables together for large groups.
Food-wise, Forbury’s puts the emphasis on French cuisine and is trying hard to raise the standards in the culinary barren town of Reading, and it very nearly succeeds. A little more creativity in the dishes and a deft touch here and there with seasoning and presentation and it could attract a much wider following. At the moment it’s not quite a place you would travel a long distance to visit.
Staff are very professional and the service runs like clockwork, even when the restaurant is packed. Prices are on the high side but at present it virtually has a monopoly amidst the chips and kebabs of Reading.
