The worst eating out experience I have ever had.

My Husband ordered a medium rare steak and when it came it was completely over cooked - not even someone who liked well done steak would have enjoyed this rubbery creation.

The restaurant was semi busy so to not make a scene my husband went to find the waiter to say he wasn’t happy with the food. What seemed like extremely quickly, another steak arrived which surprise, surprise was completely raw this time, not just blue but raw.

My husband pushed it around the plate hoping to find a part of it he could eat with no luck. When the waiter came to take our plates he asked "was the steak better this time?” Uh - no! it’s all still on the plate.

The waiter initially offered "a few pounds off" to which my husband pointed out that he hadn't eaten any of the meal and it would be better all round if he wasn’t charged for the meal - the waiter agreed to this.

I would point out that the restaurant wasn’t cheap - £15.95 - £20 for steak. I had the monkfish which was nothing special and again, quite expensive at £15.95. I should have realised something was up when the starters came out so quick - freshly cooked? I think not!

The table next to us weren't pleased with their steak either so I hope they had the courage to complain - we shouldn't have to feel embarrassed to complain, it’s the restaurant that should feel embarrassed for serving up such rubbish.

"How I agree with previous patron of this shameful restaurant. We know something was wrong when our main courses appeared within minutes of ordering. I have never tasted such disgusting pasta. It was supposed to be a seafood penne. The prawns were still frozen and there were minute pieces of cold smoked salmon and no sauce. The charge for these frozen meals was £10.95. On complaing the owner went absolutely mad. He was rude and aggressive and locked the door and threatened to call the police. He was very personal in his insults and his son? attempted to shoulder charge my husband. In the end we were ordered from the premises. All in all a terrible exprerience."

"I have to agree with the two comments already posted.
The decor of Commodore restaurant leaves a lot to be desired - tatty looking carpets, tables and old, unstable chairs make for a not-very-nice dining experience.
The food was bog-standard 80's style fayre. My prawn cocktail was sumped with what appeared to be half a cup of water at the bottom. My partner's soup looked like it was fresh from a packet - very dark with freeze-dried veg floating around!
My main, amaretto chicken (!) was terrible. The sauce was as lumpy as wallpaper paste and had no taste...his steak was cooked well although again it was covered over with pepper sauce, which definitely did not taste freshly made...very expensive for such poor quality, around £15.50 for the steak.
For the duration of our visit to the Commodore, the place was almost empty. We were shocked when a man came in and asked if they could accommodate a party of fourteen...they turned him away saying "no you should've booked"!
And on our way out we had to squeeze past a chair blocking the doorway entrance, which had been put there by management with a note saying "no tables left" or something to that effect.
Overall, a very poor standard of food and too ambitious with pricing. We wouldn't eat here again."

"This was the worst eating experience we've had in a LONG time. Proper Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare stuff. The staff were rude - we could hear them slagging us off! ('did you see the way she looked at the [definitely not homemade] soup'). The proprietress collared a lady who had popped in to use the loo and gave her a bo##ocking in front of the whole restaurant as she wasn't a customer! Gammon 'steak' was a piece of bacon, rest of food mediocre. Decor unbelieveable, whole place looked dirty. Avoid unless you fancy an experience so bad it's almost entertaining."
