Chronicles is a breathe of fresh air in Reading’s teen chain bar infested drinking circuit.

It is an oasis for anyone who wants to enjoy a drink without having to fight heavily tattooed chavs to get served at the bar and battle to be heard above  ‘conversations’ about Jordan and Peter between hoop-earring wearing mini-skirted banshees.

Hidden away down a quiet side street near the town hall, Chronicles offers a comfortable and friendly cellar bar environment where good wine and food is on offer.

The staff are excellent, the lighting is low and the clientele is respectable and friendly. It is a mystery as to why this venue isn’t busier.

The one thing it suffers from is a slight lack of trade and atmosphere on some nights.

Wine starts at about £13 a bottle. Food is good value, fairly standard brasserie-style offerings. First choice for a glass of wine in Reading.

"Whenever I visit Chronicles I can’t understand why the place isn’t busier. It’s an excellent little wine bar which would be greatly helped by the noise of a few more customers. I would urge everyone who wants to enjoy some good wine to pay a visit to Chronicles and support what is about the only place in Reading where you can go without being surrounded by beer monsters. This place bills itself as a restaurant as well by the management should put the food on the back burner and concentrate on what this place is good at and that’s wine!"

"
This place is so cool - the atmosphere friendly and laid-back, the food is great and there a really good selection of wine. I can't understand why it's not busier."

"Chronicles is a regular after work place for us and is great if you something completely different in Reading. The food is also very good and I would thoroughly recommend Chronicles. The reason I'm writing this is that they need support to stay open. We don't want places like this to disappear."
