Bella Italia is among the many eateries along the riverside area of The Oracle offering a quick bite to eat or more leisurely meal.

The restaurant was full when I visited one Saturday lunchtime, but the staff coped with the numbers well.

There is outdoor seating offering a nice view of the river, however inside is pleasant, with Italian themed pictures and murals painted on the walls to transport you to the other side of Europe.

The odds were stacked against Bella Italia on my visit, as I had already eaten at a branch in Edinburgh and had a thoroughly awful meal.

However this visit went someway to amending my opinion of the chain.

For my starter, I had king prawns on skewers with a tomato salsa and ciabatta bread. This was tasty, and the number of prawns was very generous. They were just slightly over cooked, however the bread was delicious with the salsa.

My main course was a Pollo Piccantina pizza with chicken, sweet peppers, onion and chilli. The heat from the chilli was just the right side of hot and the chicken was tender and tasty. The base of the pizza was crusty, as I would expect, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Prices are reasonable too, with starters costing around £5 and mains at around £10.

It hasn't replaced my favourite place to get a pizza, which is Prezzo, however it was a marked improvement on my last experience.
