"Just awful. Waited an hour and twenty minutes and we didn't even get a table, despite there being dozens free. Apparently there weren't enough kitchen staff to cope! The place is an absolute shambles. Bar area littered with dirty plates and glasses and the toilets were disgusting. This restaurant was built relatively recently, and yet it is battered and worn."

"After having looked at the review I was slightly apprehensive about eating here but having never had a bad meal at a Harvester I decided to try this one with three kids and a husband in tow. The service was excellent, the whole atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming and although the place was very busy on a friday evening, we had absolutely no problem with the order being wrong, late or not up to standard. Even when my darling 6 year old decided that she didn't want cheese in her burger after all the waitress didn't bat an eyelid and with a laugh and a smile simply brought a fresh one for her. Nothing was too much trouble and for the price of the meal we were more than happy. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap but family friendly place to eat."

"This is my local harvester and although I don't go there that often I always have a great experience. The staff are wonderful - even the times when you can see blantantly they're run off thier feet with rude customers deflating them, they always manage to pull off a smile and answer all our needs. Last time we visited my steak was slightly undercooked but the waitress, although was very very busy was pleasant, got it changed for me as soon as she could. I think people need to remember it's not the waitresses who cook the food, so next time you decide to be rude to a waitress - go in the kitchen and speak to the chefs first! I've been to many other harvester and I can say this one is definitely in the top five. I do believe though they are short staffed at times, which is no fault of the waitresses they do a great job."

"The service was so appalling that we got up and left before our food order was taken. Several other customers were complaining that their orders hadn't arrived and the place was just chaotic. Such a pity - this place was really popular and well run when it was a Brewers Fayre. The staff then were more experienced and mature...maybe that has some relevance to how it is now!"

"Awful awful awful. Will never go to another Harvester. The food was overcooked, you could taste that they needed to change the cooking oil. Waiter was really unfriendly, but his attitude changed when it came to paying the bill."

"Will never, never go to another Harvester again if that is the way they train their staff - rude, abrupt, unfriendly, horrid."
John F Goodman, UK. September 10, 2009.

"Had a really rude waitress who had been mouthing off to other diners. Really childish behaviour & I personally wouldn't want to dine out there again if that's the kind of service that they provide. Uncurtious and very abrupt service. My second time there & I think that I really wouldn't want to set foot again in the establishment."

We chose the Amesbury Archer for a quick meal whilst travelling on the A303. If you want a quick meal, definitely go somewhere else.

We wanted to eat outside so had to queue at the bar to order which took 10 minutes as the only member of staff working behind the bar was rushed off his feet.

We ordered starters plus main meals. 40 minutes after ordering, our main courses arrived, well, some of it.

The waitress was somewhat surprised and put out when we said we would prefer our starters first. They arrived 10 minutes later. Both were okay except there was no butter for the stale bread. I mentioned this later and was told that butter was on the salad cart, a fact the waiting staff had failed to pass on.

A further 30 minutes later, and after several trips to the bar to find out where our food was, our main courses arrived, both had clearly been reheated rather than freshly cooked.

One was missing the extra vegetables ordered so we asked about these (told grilled tomatoes were off and they would 'look into' the mushroom) and we soon returned the ultra well done steak (should have been medium rare).
Other half struggled on alone, with his dried up meal, but not much fun eating alone.

After another 10 minutes or so, the steak reappeared and I was told the mushroom would follow. Despite eating the steak and solo vegetable slowly, by the end of the meal there was still no mushroom. So we complained.

The manager handled the complaint well and gave us a partial refund, but really, all we wanted was to pay for a reasonable meal, delivered efficiently and to be able to eat together.

One mistake, especially when staff are clearly overworked and it is busy, is forgivable, but this was one hour and thirty five minutes of error after error.

There were quite a few foreign visitors as the nearest pub to Stonehenge, we felt so embarrassed that the Amesbury Archer would give them with such a negative view of the UK.

It's time to start putting the Great back into Great Britain.
